Why do you need oocyte health insurance?
In India, The Ministry of Health & Family Welfare has made it mandatory for Assisted Reproductive Technology (ART) Clinics and Banks to have insurance coverage in place for Oocyte Donors. This insurance must cover hospitalization expenses that may arise as a complication from the process of Oocyte donation.
According to the Assisted Reproductive Technology (Regulation) Act, 2021 (42 of 2021), intending couples or women are required to purchase general health insurance coverage for an oocyte donor for a period of 12 months. The insurance must be provided by an insurance company or agent that is recognized by the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority (IRDAI) established under the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority Act, 1999. The coverage must be sufficient to cover all expenses related to complications arising from the process of oocyte retrieval.
Is there any health insurance option available in India that covers the Oocyte donors?
Safetree, a brand of A2V Insurance Brokers Private Limited, has created a specialized health insurance product specifically for Oocyte donors. The product is underwritten by an insurance company that is registered with the Insurance Regulatory and Development Authority of India (IRDAI).
